After doing intense research about bullying, what I learned about it is that bullying is more then an evil behavior that puts the whole school down, it created a lot of complicated issues and claims that people have an uncertain idea about bullying. Our parents, schools, and state governments still argue over this complex issue of bullying. We can create a lot of claims about bullying and ways to stop it but the problem will still comeback to us. It can be a loophole in the school or government that bullies tend to get away with. It also might be that people do not put enough awareness to prevent more bullying. Could be that people cyber bully more often then in school. There is ridiculous amount of information that it is hard to find ways to stop bullying. One of the many ways to stop bully are creating laws, interventions, self defense, learn the signs of bullying, and involvement in school. It is hard to imagine the intense amount over this subject that people still argue over.
Some people want to stop bullying with government involvement. That means that it is up to the state to a lot of research to find the causes of bullying and a realistic solution to prevent it. It is much like a research project in school but it is practical and can help reduce bullying. One huge example of such a law is New Jersey ’s anti bully law. It was enacted so make punishments tougher to reduce bullying. Governor Chris Christie said that the law is the toughest anti bully law in the US . The trade off is that the state has to through all of the trouble from bullying to make the law. Also it can take months or even years to enact the law. For this to work the whole state must have a huge awareness to bullying.
Another method to stop bullying is interventions. Most bullying start around elementary and middle schools. Bullying is seriously not a laughing matter as it will hurt the student and the whole school. Intervention will help the victim get a chance to talk to the bully and discuss problems to end it in a positive environment. It will then develop good relationships with the bully in hopes to stop it. However intervention will not guarantee the bully to stop all of the bully. Maybe the bully will go back to the old behavior and cause more trouble.
If students get in confrontation with the bully, they have the rights to defend themselves by standing up to them. to stand up means that you do not show any fear towards to the bully, you are not scared, and you will do anything to convince the bully to stop. On a survey I created, 42.9% of the students say that they will report to the teacher about bullying. Although telling the teacher will stop the bullying, the problem is that the teacher will go through all of the trouble to stop the bully. the best solution is to stand up. unfortunately only 14.3% of students say that they will stand up to the bully. Sanding up to the bully will indeed show the victim power and the bullying will stop. by doing so, the victim becomes emotionally powerful.
If all else fails, then self defense will make the bully end the trouble. Self defense can be used to escape or to fight someone. When encountering a bully, the victim thinks that the bully has no fighting experience what so ever. In a survey 28.6% of students say they will resort to self defense to stop the bullying. The biggest mistake of self defense is that some students use it to fight. fighting will lead both the victim and the bully to be suspended or even expelled from school. The proper way of doing self defense is escape. It will give the victim enough time to get out and tell the teacher. Either telling or fighting , the experience is more like survival.
Bullying dose not have to be involved in school, As new technology is rises so as bullying through cyber-bullying. Cyber bullying allows bullies to track the victim online like Facebook and Twitter or through text messaging. Cyber bullying is more dangerous then physical bullying because it requires no physical contact and the anywhere the victim goes, there is no safe spot from cyber bullying and often no one reports it. Only 14.3% of students say that they will report bullying to a parent online. Online, there are no laws and no limits that restrict any Threatening message. Whatever people type, they think its ok to post something really hurtful. Those kinds of messages will make the victim commit suicide. One example of an action like this is a Rutgers student Tyler Clementi who committed suicide after his room mate post a video of his sexual activity with another male student. Ways to prevent it is to logout or delete the cyber bully’s account to stop it from becoming worse.
